The Brilliant World Of Anna Sui

Nothing gets me more excited than learning about the inspiring history of fashion. So the moment I heard that Deniss Nothdruft, curator at the Fashion & Textiles Museum & writer of two fabulous books on fashion has curated an exhibit on fashion designer Anna Sui with a lecture on the history of her fashion label, I instantly booked myself for it. Anna Sui is an American fashion designer & was named the "Top 5 Icons Of The Decade" & the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime achievement award by Council Of Fashion Designers Of America in 2009.

What makes this show more exciting is the fact that this is the first time an American designer has been the focus of a retrospective exhibition in the UK. Anna sui has evolved the course of fashion with her unique though process & noteworthy design aesthetic. As I mentioned earlier, the show began with a highly interesting lecture on the world of Anna Sui. Unfortunately I couldn't take any pictures there but I gained a lot of knowledge on her journey, iconic moments & her exciting life in the world of fashion.

                                            STORYTELLING ARCHETYPES

School girls, hippies, punks, mods, victorian, androgyny there is a story in the archetypical universe of Anna Sui. She is highly inspired by Psychedelic Art Nouveau, loves the Beatles, always revisits her first collection, likes museums & absolutely loves doing research.

Art Nouveau wallpaper was especially used to recreate Sui's stores. Her gorgeous  collection of embroidered boots on display here

Stunning artwork displaying Anna Sui's work speaks volumes about her versatile

I can say this without a shadow of doubt that I have never seen more interesting mood boards in my life. Truly inspiring for any fashion designer, new or experienced

Perfume packaging so adorable I'd display them in a showcase too

Here are some close ups of interesting details from the exhibit

Anna Sui is genuinely the queen of pop culture & rock n roll romanticism. It was a fabulous experience to witness all her famous archives. Her work is influencing the current trends & slowly we  can see the 80s & 90's coming back. The best example of that would be Alessandro Michelle's collections for Gucci since his entry as creative director. Heavy influences in his work from the 80's & the 90's are being loved by everyone in the world of fashion & fashion connoisseur's alike.

Hope you enjoyed the post.

Stay stylish. Love, Jess !!!
